The Binos overcame the loss of a goal in only 43 seconds to book their place in the final of the East Kilbride Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Super Premier League team Arthurlie.
The Binos starting line up included 5 trialists with a further 2 on the bench
Arthurlie took the lead inside the first minute when a cross from the right was stabbed home by McFarlane. The stadium announcer gave it as an own goal by Paul Hay but it looked as though the Arthurlie player’s shot was heading for goal even although it might have hit Hay.
Arthurlie were the better team in the first half with their simple direct play which, considering the condition of the pitch, was probably the best approach. However, the Binos did manage to get the equaliser just before half time when McKenna played the ball to Gray who sent a left foot shot in off the underside of the bar.
The second half was a much better affair for the large number of travelling fans with Gribben looking particularly dangerous.
The Binos took the lead in 58 minutes when the ball was played through to Gribben who laid the ball into the path of Taggart to shoot home with the aid of a slight deflection.
The Binos virtually tied the game up in 71 minutes as Arthurlie started to fade out of the game. Gribben’s shot was blocked but McKenna was on hand to score from the rebound.
The Binos now meet hosts, East Kilbride Thistle, who earlier in the day beat a Hamilton Accies youth team 2-0. This will be a repeat of the first final from 2 years ago and a repeat of the scoreline that day will see the Binos regain the Tommy McGrane Memorial Cup.
