DENE SHIELDS

Dene Shields was signed on loan from first division Gretna until Christmas with an option of extending it. Shields started his career with Raith Rovers before Sunderland bought him for £60,000 after only a handful of games for the Kirkcaldy side. He never appeared for their first team and was loaned out to Conference side's Scarbrough and Doncaster Rovers in his time before being released. He then signed till the end of the season with Raith Rovers before signing for Brechin City. After a fall out with the manager he was then loaned out to Cowdenbeath where this move became permanent at the end of the season. He stayed there for a year and a half before Gretna snapped him up for £30,000. He was then loaned out for most of the season to first division Stranraer, although he did feature in Gretna's Scottish cup semi final win at Hampden over Dundee. Dene made his debut against Ayr in the first game of the season and scored his first goal in the 3-3 home draw with Stranraer in mid August. Dene's scored a total of nine goals in 17+3 games for Stirling before returning to Gretna after the SFL rules did not permit him to stay with the Binos till the end of the season. Dene has been a fantastic player to the Binos and he put in some fantastic shifts for the Binos and it will be hard to replace him in the January window.
