The Binos regained the Tommy McGrane Memorial Cup which they won in 2005 when they came from behind to beat the hosts 2-1.
Before the tournament, Allan Moore had said that he would be taking the competition seriously which probably explains the lack of youth players used over the weekend. Instead, a strong team was put out with the only trialist in the starting line up being Nicky Walker.
The first half was a very keenly fought affair with some of the players showing a bit too much aggression which resulted in bookings for Fellowes and Bell. However, it was the homesters who scored the only goal of the half when McCrae’s 25 yard free kick went in at the top corner giving Christie no chance.
The second half was one way traffic as East Kilbride decided to hang on to their lead and their forays into the Binos half were few and far between.
Gribben came close when he was on the end of a Walker cross but his effort crashed off the crossbar. However, the equaliser came in the 73rd minute when Nugent scored from a Gray cross.
A minute later Bell hit the crossbar with a long range effort.
The Binos took the lead in the 77th minute when Lilley played the ball through to Harris who sidefooted the ball past MacDonald.
East Kilbride tried hard in the final minutes to get the goal which would take the match to a penalty shoot out but, despite the referee playing one minute of additional time, it was the Binos who ended up the winners for the second time in three years.
