Stirling Albion made their second trip north in four days and, again, returned home with all three points as they comfortably beat bottom team Forfar by two goals to nil. In the process they have cut Morton’s lead at the top to a solitary point as they stretched their unbeaten league run to 15 matches.
The Binos starting line up showed 2 changes from the team which came from behind to beat Peterhead. Andy Graham made his first start since the middle of August as Mark McNally took a well deserved break whilst Devine retained his place in left midfield with Taggart dropping to the bench where the substitute goalkeeper was a trialist. It was no great surprise that Forfar stuck to the same team which earned an unexpected point at Cappielow on Saturday.
When these two teams met at Forthbank at the beginning of September, the Binos totally dominated the game. Since then, Forfar have played 9 matches and have yet to record a victory. Tonight, the Binos again dominated the first half but it wasn’t until the stroke of half time that their pressure paid off when Cramb bundled the ball home form close range to put the Binos into the lead. Before then, Cramb and Forsyth had both hit the post whilst Aitken and Cramb had efforts which went just wide.
Forfar put the Binos defence under a lot of pressure at the start of the second half and Hogarth had to produce a top class save to deny Tosh the equaliser whilst Fraser did have the ball in the net but the assistant on the stand side had already raised his flag for offside.
The Binos suffered a blow just after the hour mark when Roycoft hobbled off to be replaced by Fraser. With Devine already substituted minutes before that, Fraser took Roycroft’s place in the centre of the defence when the more obvious change would have seen Forsyth playing along side Graham and Devine move to left back.
The Binos tied the match up with 20 minutes to go when Cashmore got his second goal in consecutive matches with an overhead kick which beat Murdoch. They had further chances to score but had to settle for a 2-0 victory to please the travelling support who had braved a bitterly cold night.
The Binos now have another break from league business when they make a return visit to Meadowbank Stadium to meet non league Edinburgh City in the 2nd round of the Tennent’s Scottish Cup. Nostalgia is not a word I would use about Meadowbank but it will bring back some memories whilst, for the younger supporters, this will be a chance to see what they missed before Livingston came into existence.
Hopefully there will be a big support on Saturday and that the team will be in the draw for the next round when the big boys join in.
