Stirling Albion and Livingston served up a 7 goal thriller in a match which was a fantastic advert for First Division football. Unfortunately, the Binos second half fightback was to no avail as a Dorrans’ hat trick ensured that the Binos still haven’t managed to beat Livingston. To compound matters, the Binos finished with 10 men for the second week running as Harris was sent off near the end for a reckless tackle on a Livingston player.
The Binos starting line up showed 2 changes from the side which gained a point at Cappielow. One was enforced, due to McKenna’s suspension, and this saw Lilley partnering Cramb up front. The second was tactical with Aitken dropping to the bench and his place being taken by Bell.
The Binos started the match the better team and, despite playing against a stiffish breeze, dominated the opening quarter. However, against the run of play, Livingston took the lead in 24 minutes when Dorrans fired home from 35 yards.
Livingston’s second came in 33 minutes when they sliced open the Binos’ defence for Mackay to stroke the ball past Christie.
A minute later it was 3-0 when Dorrans was given far too much time inside the 18 yard box and sent a right foot shot past Christie.
Just before half time, Livingston had appeals for a penalty turned away when Matthews went down inside the box.
Not for the first time this season, Moore had to administer a tough half time team talk and it reaped dividends as, within 17 minutes of the restart, the Binos were level.
Firstly, Bell controlled the ball with his chest and, somehow, managed to get in a shot which ended up in the back of the net.
Nugent was then denied by a one handed save by Liberda as the Binos threw everyone into attack.
The second came in 53 minutes when Taggart beat Mackay and his low cross was turned in by Cramb.
Livingston came back and a McMenamin cross was met by Snodgrass whose shot was blocked by Christie. Makel then had a good chance from the edge of the box but shot over the bar.
The Binos drew level in 62 minutes when McBride shot home from 7 yards.
At this point, Livingston were clearly rattled and tempers started to get frayed.
With just over a quarter of an hour to go, Livingston regained the lead when Dorrans collected a cross from the right and had time to control the ball before stroking the ball past Christie to complete his hat trick.
The Binos tried hard to get back on level terms but to no avail and their misery was compounded with Harris’s dismissal minutes from the end.
Allan Moore was quoted in a local paper this week as saying he would like another striker. On today’s performance, stopping the opposition from scoring is more of a problem than scoring goals themselves.
The Binos now go into a 2 week break from league business due to next weekend’s International match and a difficult Scottish Cup tie at Stranraer the following week.
