Interview Four - Marek Tomana

Stirlingalbion.com is going to be bringing you a new feature in which we will be doing interviews with former players and managers and current players and manager were possible. We are hoping to be able to get online every Monday and the questions will be asked by the fans themselves. Our fourth interview is with a player who only signed at the start of the season, but who has already become a fans favourite this season:

Marek Tomana .

Marek initially came to training with the Binos after moving to Scotland from Slovakia because best friend Joe Petric was doing pre season training with the Binos. Marek quickly impressed Stirling manager Alan Moore and was fielded in several pre-season games and was offered a one year deal with the Binos. Marek was brought on board to give more depth to the Stirling midfield and best friend Joe put his own career on pause to come on board as Marek's translator. Marek soon established himself as a first team regular and had the fans on their feet singing his name with his quick feet and eye for goal. Below is the answers to the questions given to Marek:

 

1)What brought you to Scotland?

"My best friend crazy Joe got me a trial for Stirling."

 

2)Where have you played before?

"I played for Vion Zlate Moravce(1 division) and F.C.Rona Lednicke Rovne(2 division)"

 

3)How long would you like to stay at Stirling?

"A few season's ."

 

4)What do you think of the fans?

"Just one thing, they are the BEST !"

 

5)What is the standard like here compared to your old league?

"It is faster and quicker over here and it isn't easy for me."

 

6)What's it like being Slovakia's 2nd most famous Scottish import, and do you consider Lubo (Moravchick) a hero, or an a*se?

" You can't compare me with Lubo- he is a real legend."

 

7)How is your English coming along?

" Not too bad- I try my best."

 

8)Do you find it difficult to rely on technique rather than physique in this league?

" No, all my life I have been the smallest player on the pitch."

 

9)Are there any good Slovakian chants we could learn?

"Ciki caki ciki cak rozjebeme vas na prach. In English- ciki caki ciki cak we bite you to the dust."

 

10)Can you see other Eastern europeans coming over to play in other Scottish teams at this level - has he recommended it to others?

" I don't know, it is not easy to play here."

11)Are you better than your countryman Filip Sebo?

" I don't think so!!."

 

12)When are you getting a haircut?

" I will get my haircut like Joe if we win promotion!!."

 

13)What are your plans for next season?

" To play in the first division with Stirling."

 

14)Do you get homesick?

" Yes, of course I do. I miss my mum, dad, sister and brother."

 

15)How do Scottish supporters compare to Slovakian supporters?

" In Scotland the fans are more passionate."

 

16) Is centre midfield your favoured position?

" Yes, it is my favourite position. "

 

17)How did you come about playing for Stirling Albion?

" Through crazy Joe. "

 

18)What did you know of the Scottish league before you came over?

" I knew only Celtic and Rangers."

 

19)What was your favourite match of the season so far?

" My first game against Ayr."

 

20)What is your ambitions in football?

" To get as far as I can. "

 

21)Any plans to renew your contract?

" I did for next season. "

 

22)Have you been contacted about a move to any bigger clubs whilst you have been at albion ?

"Not yet"

 

23)Who is your footballing idol?

"That's easy- Louis Figo."

 

24)What did Santa bring you for Christmas?

"A Fugees cd from my friend Micheal."

 

25)We saw you get virtually kicked out of the game against Ayr; how do you cope with the physical aspects of the Scottish game and do you feel referees should give you more protection?

"They could, but they won't."

 

26)Also, have you changed your game to make allowance for the treatment you get?

"I don't think I have."

 

27)The constant concept is that european players have greater technique than Scottish ones, but we have the "fight". So with you playing at the same level of players who have "poorer technique" than you, what matters most? Are we coaching wrongly? Or does it make no difference? After all, we beat France!

"The best is a mix of technique and fight."
