After last weeks emphatic win against Clyde the Beanos return to Forthbank to take on Glasgow side Partick Thistle. The Beanos were hit heavily with suspensions and injury problems this week with Steven Bell was still side lined through injury and Paul Nugent, Laurie Ellis and Ross Forsyth were all suspended from action this week. This left Allan Moore with no choice but to bring in Paul Hay, Andrew Graham and Stewart Devine who returns from injury.
The Beanos were on the back foot from kick off with Partick Thistle having three clear chances to take the lead early on in the first half the best of these came from a Kevin McKinlay cross that picked out Simon Donnelly who could only manage to drag his shot past Myles Hogarth’s left hand post. Thistle had another chance to score when defender John Robertson got into the box between the Stirling defence, only too see his shot easily gathered by Hogarth. The Beanos managed to take the lead in the game with their first attack of the game and managed to get a corner that Chris Aitken delivered into the box to be met precisely by on loan Falkirk defender Brian Allison who rose above the Thistle defence and headed the ball past a helpless Jon Tuffey. The Beanos were immediately back on the defensive as Thistle had a good chance to equalise after a cross from Robertson was headed goal wards by Paul Keegan but his effort hit the post. Steven McKeown put another cross into the box but Raploch born Jag Kevin McKinlay could only manage a weak header directly at Hogarth who easily made the save. Thistle continued with the pressure as Thistles Scott Chaplain got on the end of a McKeown knock down and the resulting shot had Hogarth stretched to clear the danger. Thistle were the first to see a player booked after Marc Twaddle handled the ball and the resulting free kick from Aitken fizzled over the bar. As the first half came to a close Aitken nearly doubled the Beanos lead after a Paul Hay Cross.
HT: Stirling Albion 1 v 0 Partick Thistle
Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall decided to change things around for the second half with Paul Keegan and Steven McKeown were replaced by Stevie Murray and Ryan McStay respectively.
The Beanos were the more offensive side at the start of the second half with Chris Aitken taking a shot from 20 yards but it was easily gathered by the Thistle keeper. The Beanos continued the pressure as Nathan Taggart managed to fool the Thistle defence with a excellent run but unfortunately no one was able to get on the youngsters cross. Chris Aitken had another excellent opportunity to increase the Beanos lead when he managed to get the ball off Thistle defender Simon Storey and with David McKenna to his left, Aitken had a choice of pass on to the Beanos hit man or go it alone unfortunately he decided on the latter and his shot was sent up and over the bar. Thistle didn’t manage to settle in the second half until they had a excellent when chance to get things back onto a even keel when Simon Donnelly seen his choice go out for a goal kick. John Robertson had another chance to bring the visitors level but his effort went sailing over the bar. Both Stirling Albion and Partick Thistle felt it was time for change and Kevin Moffat replaced Ross Harris for the Beanos and Gary Harkins replaced Scott Chaplain for Thistle. The Beanos had another excellent chance to double their lead as McKenna managed to get into the Partick box and pass the ball back to Taggart who calmly took a shot from 20 yards and only just sent the ball out wide for a goal kick. Thistle started to get the upper hand in the game as the Beanos started to sit further back and defend their 1 v 0 lead. Thistle’s Stevie Murray took a shot at Myles Hogarth but it was easily saved by the Stirling number 1. Although Thistle were having most of the possession they weren’t doing much with it John Robertson managed to get a long range shot on target but the save was made easily by Hogarth. The Beanos managed to threaten the Thistle goal on the counter attack but couldn’t manage to convert their chances into goals. The Beanos made their second change of the day with Derek Lilley replacing Nathan Taggart. Chris Aitken nearly scored the Beanos second but his excellent shot was deflected behind for a corner. In the final moments of the game Paul Hay was booked for kicking the ball away after the referee singled for a Thistle free kick how ever it wouldn’t affect the result of the game as shortly after the referee called time.
