The Binos continued their build up to the new season when they entertained new SPL boys, St Mirren, at Forthbank. The fans who decided to forego a day of sunbathing witnessed a typical pre season friendly where the home team used a total of 19 players whilst the Buddies used 17 players. The visitors squad included two of their summer signings, Burke and Brittain, but, for some reason, they were listed as trialists.
The Binos used a total of 7 trialists, some of whom were familiar to Forthbank regulars. The Binos’ starting line up also included Dene Shields who has been signed in a loan deal with Gretna. The initial deal is until Christmas but, hopefully, on today’s showing it will be extended until the end of the season, especially if the club can manage to sign his first half partner who scored a well taken goal just on the half time whistle to put the Binos into the lead.
The Binos doubled their lead early in the second half when Fraser pounced on an O’Brien lay off to send the ball into the keeper’s top left hand corner.
St Mirren pulled one back in 55 minutes when Sutton capitalised on a Graham mistake to lash the ball home. The equaliser came in 75 minutes when ex Dundee player Anderson shot home from 25 yards.
The next instalment of the pre season build up sees the Binos set off in their quest to win the Stirlingshire Cup for a 4th consecutive season when Dumbarton, who were relegated from the Second Division, visit Forthbank. This will give the fans another opportunity to guage how well the club will fare in the new season.
