The Binos continued their build up to the new season when they entertained another SPL team, this time St Mirren, in what is fast becoming an annual fixture. Both teams listed 18 players and everyone was used with the exception of the substitute keepers. However, the Binos finished the match with 9 men after McBride and one of the trialists had to leave the field with the Binos having used all their substitutes. They wisely decided not to risk putting sub keeper Christie on in case he picked up an injury.
Whilst St Mirren weren’t in the same class as Hibernian, they still ran out comfortable 3-0 winners with first half goals from Corcoran and McCay. A second half penalty by Kean wrapped up the scoring.
The Binos didn’t look like scoring though they were more dangerous when Gribben and Lilley were the striking partnership.
Once again, it was a case of trying to identify the trialists. The number 9 was McKenna who, although signed, was listed as a trialist pending completion of his registration forms. The left winger was Ricky Waddell and certainly is worth another look as is one of the second half subs, Nicky Walker.
Tomorrow night, the Binos take on Stenhousemuir in the Stirlingshire Cup and the team will most likely comprise the youth players.
