Both teams fielded a mixture of youth players and trialists having played matches the previous evening. The Binos line up players with first team experience in the shape of keeper Scott Christie and left back Derek Currie who made his first team debut last season at Stranraer. The 2 trialists were left winger Ian Ramsay who appeared against Hibs on Saturday and a striker with the exotic name of Sergio Rodriguez, ex Vancouver Whitecaps.
After a very uninspiring first half, the Binos scored the only goal of the game early in the second half when the 2 trialists linked up well on the left hand side. Ramsay’s cross wasn’t held by the keeper and Fotheringham had the easiest of tap ins.
Despite hitting the woodwork twice, Stenhousemuir were unable to find a way past Christie. The Binos will now play Dumbarton on a date still to be arranged, knowing that a victory will put them into the final.
