2v1 Berwick |
31/08/05 |
| The Binos edged
out Berwick Rangers in the second round of the Challenge cup
in what was a pretty dire game tonight. Goals from Paul Hay
and Chris Aitken where enough to take them through to the quarter
finals of this cup, but Myles Hogarth had to pull off a couple
of cracking saves on the way. The Binos now don't have another
game until a week on Saturday and hopefully that'll be enough
time for them to have a good rest and get them back on track
to get some points to take us up the league table. Match report
below. |

Trust Membership |
28/08/05 |
| Stirling Albion
Supporters Trust will this week send out a membership renewal
form to all it's members and previous members in a bid to get
numbers up. The focus in recent years has been to get recognised
by the Stirling Albion board so that the trust could help the
club. This has now been put on the back burner after all attempts
have been ignored by the current board. The emphasis this year
is to make the people of Stirling more aware of the trust, gain
new members and to help the club as much as we can indirectly.
Over the last few years the trust has done a lot of work that
the people of Stirling may have not reliased and it's hoped
that the efforts of this years board committee will have more
press coverage. We are therefor appealing to anyone out there
who cares for SAFC to join the trust in a bid to eventually
be recognised by the club. It only costs £10 per adult
per annum to join and £5 per under 16 year per annum to
join. Please take a second to look at the supporters trust website
(link is available below or by clicking on the supporters trust
badge below on the left) to see exactly what it is the trust
are trying to achieve. For example, did you know that Stirling
Albion was more than £1.3 million pounds in debt? We want
to help the club get rid of this, but we need your help to do
this. There is still a limited amount of places available on
the trust committee and all members can come along to the meetings
to ask questions or give us advice. We need you to stand up
and be counted and help take the club forward. We are therefor
appealing to all the clubs fans to join together and help the
club out of it's current predicament. To become a member, simply
e-mail james@stirlingalbion.com for further details or approach one of the trust committee at
one of the games. |

1v2 Alloa Athletic |
27/08/05 |
| First of all I
would like to apoligise for the lateness of this match report
going onto the website as I was away for the weekend and was
unable to put it up until tonight. Stirling went into this first
derby game of the season having scored no league goals and having
gained only one point from three league games. This game was
to prove no different with Alloa running out 2v1 winners. Luck
did seem to play a part in the way that they won however, as
both the penalty and the second goal could be disputed. On the
day however, Alloa wanted the points more and yet again the
Binos failed to beat their closet rivals. The Binos now go into
their fifth game of the season desperate for a win away to Raith
Rovers in a bid to take them off the bottom of the table. Match
report below. |

4v1 Stirling |
23/08/05 |
| Stirling went
into the second round of the CIS cup after a good 2-1 victory
over First division Queen of the South, but they where always
going to be the underdogs in this tie against SPL Kilmarnock.
Stirling took a shock lead after Wilson put pressure on Kilmarnock
keeper Combe and Boyack lobbed the keeper from 30 yards after
his pass went astray. Had the Binos kept hold of this lead until
half-time, things may have been different, but Killie scored
with only two minutes of the half left. Killie where rejuvenated
in the second half and went onto to win by four goals to one.
Stirling still gave them a fright when Robert Dunn hit the post
when they where winning 2-1. Match report below. |

1v0 Stirling |
20/08/05 |
The kick
off for this game was delayed for 15 minutes due a bad accident
on the motorway on the way down, but it still wasn't long
enough to prevent some of the Stirling fans miss a large chunk
of the game. Our match reporter, Ian Jones was one of these
people and he only seen the last seven minutes of the game!
Due to this, there won't be a match report, but lets hope
Ian and the other fans have a better day today, than the nightmare
that was yesterday. On to the game and there was a few changes
from last Saturdays defeat by Morton. The team lined up in
a 3-5-2 formation with the following players: Hogarth, Roycroft,
McNally, Graham, Nugent, Forsyth, Boyack, Aitken, Hay, Turnbull
and Connelly, whilst on the bench was Christie, Devine, O'Brien,
Wilson and Dunn. Gretna got off to a flying start and almost
scored within the first minute, but Hogarth was on fine form
and pulled off a point blank save. It was Gretna who had most
of the pressure and eventually went into the lead with a 25
yard wonder strike from new signing James Grady. Gretna had
a couple of great chances to extend their lead, but they couldn't
find a way past Hogarth. Stirling also had the odd chance
with Connelly hitting the ball straight at the keeper from
an acute angle and Hay almost scored near the end of the half
when his sizzling shot was too hot to handle for the widely
experienced Main, but the crossbar came to his rescue. The game was more even in the second half with the Binos having
the best chance to score an equalizer. Andy Graham pushed
forward and sent in an inch perfect cross to Turnbull, who
hit the bar with his powerful header. Overall, I think Gretna
are more than beatable and going on this performance, they
will start to find the going harder in this division than
they would like.

4v1 Stenhousemuir |
17/08/05 |
| Stirling
fielded a mixture of first team players, fringe players and
under 19's in their first Stirlingshire cup game of the season.
Stirling are keen to defend the cup after winning it for the
last two seasons in a row and they raced into a first half
lead of 3-0 after a few early dodgy moments in which Stenny
missed two one on one chances and hit the bar twice. On the
night the scorers for the Binos where O'Brien (3) and Turnbull,
with the sponsors man of the match going to Dougie Wilson.
The other group game in the Stirlingshire cup against local rivals Alloa has still to be arranged. Match
report to follow. |

| Nugent
on trial with Hibs |
17/08/05 |
| Paul
Nugent has this week been training with SPL club Hibs in a
bid to win a move there. Hibs have been tracking him for a
while, but after a solid display against them in the recent
pre-season friendly, the Hibs scouts have been out in force
to watch him in his first few games of the season. Paul made
his debut in front of 30,000 fans in 2001 in a Scottish cup
defeat to Celtic at Parkhead and has been a constant fixture
in the team since. Paul
can play as a wing back and centre back, but has more commonly
been used in the right back position for the Binos. He has
now racked up over 130 games for the Binos scoring three times.
Paul did create some interest from Wigan and Aberdeen last
season and again this season Hibs are one of many top flight
clubs sitting up and taking notice of our talented defender. |

0v2 Morton |
13/08/05 |
Stirling
went into this game pretty confident after having a good start
to the season in which they remain in both of the cups, however,
Morton proved too hot to handle. The Ton, backed by a healthy
away support, never really looked like losing this game and
they had most of the pressure with the Binos never really
getting close to goal. Stirling started the game with the
same team that had disposed of Queen Of The South in the mid-week
CIS cup, but this time they served up a lack-luster first
45 minutes. The Binos where better in the second half, but
Morton deserved all three points. Match report below.

2v1 QOS |
08/08/05 |
| First
division Queen of the South came to Forthbank tonight, but
for long spells of the game they where made to look like the
team in the lower division. The Binos raced into a two goal lead thanks to a first
half brace from Paddy Connelly, but the Doonhammers where
to pull one controversially back just before half time. The
linesman had initially flagged for off-side, however he changed
his mind and the Queens forward went onto score. His initial
decision was wrong, but half the Binos defence had stopped
tracking back until he put his flag down. The Binos still
went through after another strong defensive game and could
have finished the game with a greater margin after a great
save from O'Brien by the QOS goalkeeper and after Devine put
his shot narrowly passed the post. Match report below. |

came away with a point from Firhill, however, it really should
have been all three. The Binos started the game with two changes
from last week, out went Graham (ill) and Fraser (suspended) and in came O'Brien and Hay. Stirling dominated this game
for long spells and Steven Boyack also missed a penalty kick.
Partick only really had a ten minute spell of pressure in
which they hit the crossbar. Match report available below. |

After
hours of work to upgrade the website to be more user friendly,
the website team has finally finished. The website looks almost
identical, however, the main function of the upgrade was to
add flash buttons that will make it easier for our website
users to gain information. Some of you wouldn't have known
the amount of information that is available on this website
at a touch of a button and hopefully the new look will help
you find what you need. Please take a moment to have a look
at what features the website has and e-mail any comments (positive
or negative) to myself. As with everything, you may find an
error or two and if you do, please e-mail me at james@stirlingalbion.com and I'll do my very best to sort it out. New features that
have been added is rave-online and dream team, which is a
part of rave on-line. These features will mainly be run by
Scott Johnstone and feel free to click on the buttons to find
out what this is. Clicking on the rave-online button will
only take you to the old website at the moment, but as soon
as the first new issue of the season is available, you will
be able to access it from this button.
