Binos make double signing |
31/08/06 |
| Stirlingalbion.com can exclusively reveal that the Binos are about to sign 19 year old Christopher Malseed who plays in midfield for Irish first division side Finn Harps. Malseed is coming over to the country to study at Edinburgh university and so this will be a loan deal only involving no transfer fee. Malseed joined Harps at the beginning of the season from Ulster Senior League side Letterkenny Rovers and has made 23 appearances for the club, scoring four goals. Steven Boyack has also put pen to paper to sign for the Binos again till the end of the season. Boyack played 13+7 appearances for the Binos last season, scoring two goals in the process. Boyack was released by the Binos at the end of the season, but after proving his fitness in training to Alan Moore, the experienced midfielder has put pen to paper to the end of the season. |

Alloa 1v2 Stirling |
26/08/06 |
| Alan Moore opted for the same starting eleven as last week, however, Andy Graham was missing from the bench and in came Chris Aitken to the squad. The Binos had a nightmare start to the game when some bad defending led to the Wasps opening the scoring and I'm sure every Bino in the large away support feared the worst. The Binos plugged away and Colin Cramb scored the equaliser before half time. The Binos went 2-1 in front with a fantastic goal from Steven Bell that is an early candidate for goal of the season. Four fantastic passes lead to Bell scoring his second goal of the season just inside the box and he lapped the goal up with the fans. The Binos where then reduced to ten with just over ten minutes to go after Forsyth got two yellow cards for what looked like descent, but the battling Binos held onto to their deserved three points. Next up it's Raith Rovers at home on the Sunday (Scotland game is on the Saturday) and another chance to take three points and force our way near the top of the table. Match report below. |

Stirling 3v3 Stranraer |
19/08/06 |
| The Binos went into this game with four at the back and McNally, Nugent and Roycroft returning to the defence whilst Graham and Hay found themselves on the bench and Devine dropped out the squad due to a groin injury. Man of the match Marek Tomana returned to the midfield alongside Fraser while Bell and O'Brien fitted in at left and right midfield. Colin Cramb and Dene Shields continued their partnership up front. On to the game and some bad defending let away three goals, but the Binos managed to come away with a point after sub Ian Cashmore scored with Marek Tomana and Dene Shields also getting off the mark for the Binos. Overall it was a game of bad defending for both teams and the ref and standside linesman where utterly appalling and clearly missed a stone wall penalty and got a host of decisions wrong. Young Reds |
18/08/06 |
| The Young Reds have changed their soccer sevens day from a Tuesday night to a Saturday afternoon when the Binos are at home in an attempt to get the future young Binos down to Forthbank on a Saturday. This means that for only £2 per child ANY Stirling Albion youth who is in the Young Reds or not, can take part in the Soccer Sevens before the game. The Young Reds start at 1pm and finish at 2-30pm and changing room facitlies are available for the kids. Remember, they also get into the game if they have their Young Reds card for £4 or there is a parent and child gate available with a reduced price. A lot of time and effort goes into to trying to make this a success, so if you are planning on taking your child/teenager along to the game tomorrow, why not let them make a day of it and bring them along for a game of football beforehand. This invite is also extended to any Stranraer fans who come to the game early and fancy a game of football. On another note, the club is happy to say that both the home and away strips are on sale again at the club shop at £31 for children and £37 for adults with almost all sizes still available. The club shop is also able to order in shorts for the home or away strip at only £9 for children and £12 for adults if you leave a 50% deposit. The club shop will be open from just after 2pm till just before kick off and for another 20 minutes after the game. Why not take a minute to come in and take a look at the fantastic merchandise that the Binos have to offer at some great prices!! If you also pop into the club shop you will be able to pick up one of the free Fixture Cards that the Prudential have kindly printed this season. Although you will have to be quick as there is less than 100 left after being handed out at the first game. |

SPL2 IS A GO'ER |
17/08/06 |
Press release taken from the official website of the SPL, " At the General Meeting of the SPL today, Member Clubs decided to take steps towards inviting 10 further clubs from the Scottish Football League (SFL) to join a restructured new top flight consisting of 22 clubs playing in 2 divisions; a top division of 12 and a second division of 10 from Season 2008-2009. Commenting, SPL Chairman Lex Gold said: "Our clubs considered a range of options for structural change at the top level of Scottish football. We believe, on balance, a top flight of 22 clubs playing in 2 divisions offers the best opportunity to strengthen and enhance the senior professional game in Scotland."Our clubs are sensitive to the impact a development of this nature could have on the remaining SFL clubs and the opportunity for wider restructuring below a new top flight structure could also be addressed. We have, therefore, written to our colleagues in the SFL and the SFA to arrange an early discussion about the impact of these proposals and how they may best be brought into effect." In addition, our clubs looked at the proposals for change in Scottish football that emerged from the work done by the SFL 1st Division clubs set out in their "2006 Time for Change" document. Our clubs supported the proposal to introduce a pyramid system below SFL Division 3 and the proposal to regionalise the leagues, north and south, below that. But these are matters for the SFL and SFA.We do not propose to offer further substantive public comment on this until we have had discussions with the SFL and SFA and reported back to our clubs. Outline of approach to a new top flight structure of 22; playing in 2 divisions
- Ten SFL clubs to be invited to join the existing SPL clubs in a new Scottish top flight of two divisions. The aim is to enhance the top level of the game in Scotland.
- The new second division to be a 10 team League from Season 2008-2009.
- Two open divisions with promotion and relegation from each. It is proposed:
One up and one down automatically between divisions; Tenth placed club in the new second division to be automatically relegated to league/leagues below with automatic promotion of leading team from league/leagues below. Ninth placed club in the new second division to play off for relegation/promotion or otherwise with team that wins through to challenge from league/leagues below.
- New cup competition for all 22 clubs in new Scottish new top flight.
- Existing criteria for entry to top division.
- Minimum criteria for entry to new second division:
Only seated spectators at matches; 3000 seats; Pitch protection system (not necessarily under pitch/soil heated type); One year grace for new second division clubs from start of new structure to comply with criteria; Mandatory participation in first team, reserve, under 19 leagues and approved youth development programme; Audited accounts to be lodged with league each year; Demonstrate current best practice in corporate governance. |

Cowdenbeath 4v0 Stirling |
15/08/06 |
| The Binos went to high flying Cowdenbeath for the first round of the Challenge Cup after a fantastic result the previous Saturday in the league away to Brechin. Allan Moore opted for the same team (3-5-2) as Saturday despite the common knowledge that Cowdenbeath have been playing three up front. The Binos quickly lost the lead through sheer numbers and pressure from the home side who had won their previous three games, scoring thirteen goals in the process. Allan Moore tried to change the formation after about 20 minutes, but by this time the Binos where down 2-0. The Binos never got into this game and where out fought and out played by a very impressive Cowdenbeath side who have just come back up from the third division and look set to mount a serious challenge for the title. The start to the season has almost been on par with the start last season and the Binos already find themselves going into a huge game on Saturday against a struggling Stranraer side and nothing but three points will do if they are to prove that they will be up at the right end of the table this season. Now out of both the cup's at the first round stage, the Binos can now concentrate on the league and hopefully mount a challenge for a play off spot. Match report below. |

Brechin City 0v1 Stirling |
12/08/06 |
| Stirling bounced back from their two recent defeats with a 1-0 win over recently relegated Brechin City at Glebe Park who are tipped to go straight back up to the First Division. The Binos lined up with a 3-5-2 formation with McNally joining Forsyth and Graham with Devine and Hay playing the wing back positions. Both Aitken and Bell retained their positions in midfield and Fraser returned from injury to bolster the midfield. Colin Cramb returned to the team and partnered Shields up front, whilst Cashmore and Gibson where relegated to the bench alongside Tomana and O'Brien. The Binos where very hard to break down and they deservedly took the lead in the first half through Steven Bell after a well worked goal. The Binos then held onto the lead and the defence dealt with everything the Brechin forwards could through at them. Match report below. |

Youth System-Help us raise money |
12/08/06 |
As you may or may not know, the youth system this season will be funding itself after the club could no longer afford the upkeep of it. There is a committee set up to raise funds for it and hopefully the website will be able to bring you further news on fund raising events. I thought I would come up with the idea of raising some cash for it on here and handing it over at the end of the season on behalf of the website and part of Your City Your Team.
We are basically looking for website viewers and forum members to pledge x amount of money for a player(s) EVERY goal this season (this will include CIS,Scottish & Challenge up and league goals). For example Ross Forsyth scored two goals last season, so if someone was to sponsor him for £1 per goal, then you would have donated £2,however, if you did the same for Paddy Connolly, then you would have donated £16.
All website members/forum members that pledge money for a player will go in our members hall of fame on the website (on the left hand side of this screen). Please note that we are only looking for serious pledges and that we are doing this to raise a wee bit of money for the youth system at the start of next season (we could hand it over at the first game of the season or something). We would be able to to take payment at the end of the season via paypal, cheque or in person so it wouldn't restrict anyone from making a pledge.
I am sure everyone on here will be able to afford a player(s) of some sort so please help the future of the club by pledging money. Below is a list of players you can sponsor goals for and each player can be sponsored by as many people as possible. We have also included the amount of goals they scored last season:
Chris Aitken (13), Steven Bell (2), Stewart Devine (2), Ross Forsyth (2), John Fraser (2), Andy Graham (2), Paul Hay (1), Mark McNally (0), John Miller (0), Neil McVicars (1), Paul Nugent (1), David O'Brien (5), Sean Roycroft (0), Douglas Wilson (4), Andy Gibson (1), Colin Cramb (16), Tomana (1) & Dene Shields (4).
If you would like to make a pledge this season, then please e-mail james@stirlingalbion.com or click on the link below and add your name to the list on the forum. |

Dumbarton 3v0 Stirling |
08/08/06 |
The Binos went into this first round League cup game against third division Dumbarton with Forsyth and Devine returning to the defence, but with Colin Cramb missing from the line up giving Ian Cashmore a start up front with Dene Shields. The Binos put in a half decent first half, but a totally inept second half that saw the Sons score three pretty dire goals. Overall the Binos will need to improve rapidly if they want to avoid another hammering away from home this Saturday to Brechin City. Match report below. |

Stirling 1v3 Ayr United |
05/08/06 |
Stirling Albion opened their league campaign with a 3-1 defeat by Ayr United at Forthbank today. Stirling fielded almost the exact team as they did against St Johnstone the previous week, although Shields started alongside Cramb and Cashmore dropped to the bench. The Binos went into this game with four defender's out of the game due to injuries and suspensions and Alan Moore was forced into playing a 3-5-1-2 without the defensive midfield qualities of John Fraser because of his injury. Overall the game was evenly matched and the difference between the two teams was two bad goals conceded by the Binos through bad defensive play. Stirling had quite a few new signings making their debut's and debutant Colin Cramb scored from a cracking Tomana (Binos man of the match) cross. Also a quick mention to a decent Ayr support (350-400) who got behind their team from the start, lets hope they bring the same numbers up to Stirling on Boxing Day. Match report below. |

Cashmore Signs On |
02/08/06 |
Stirling Albion have signed ex Ayr United striker Ian Cashmore who has featured quite heavily in pre-season for the Binos. Cashmore started out his career in the junior ranks before signing for Ayr United at the start of last season. The 23 year old striker featured in over twenty games last for them, mostly from the bench, but he was unable to score any goals. Cashmore first appeared for the Binos in a closed door game against Dundee at Stirling university and has featured in most pre-season games, scoring a cracking goal against Dumbarton in the Shire cup and scoring a double in a closed door game at Hampden against Queens Park. Alan Moore also hinted that Robert Dunn could still sign for the Binos again this season after being released by the club in the summer. Dunn missed most of last season through injury and if he can prove his fitness, Moore might be tempted to add him as our fourth striker. Steven Boyack is another player who may yet return when he comes back from his holiday and like Dunn, he would need to prove his fitness before winning a contract. The Binos have dropped their interest in former Falkirk player Ian McSween after signing Andy Gibson last week. Moore also hinted that Marek Tomana might not be first choice for a starting place in midfield, but he signed him as he added a new dimension to the midfield. Stirling go into Saturday's opening game against Ayr with several key players missing through injury and suspension. Stewart Devine and Ross Forsyth are suspended for one game while Paul Nugent, Mark McNally and John Fraser will miss the game through injury. |
