Binos sign new striker
29/01/07

According to unconfirmed reports tonight, the Binos have finally signed Robert Snodgrass on loan from first division side Livingston till after the play off's (15th May). Ayr United also expressed their interest in taking the young striker on loan as well as reports that Barcelona also wanted to take him on trial! Robert has made over 50 appearances for the West Lothian side and scored seven goals and was part of the Scottish under 19 squad that reached the European finals in Poland last year. Robert is now likely to go into the squad for Saturday's home game against Peterhead whilst it's likely that Alan Moore will be still looking to add another striker before the transfer window closes.

Stirling 4v0 Forfar Athletic
27/01/07

Stirling got back to winning ways after comfortably winning 4-0 against bottom of the table Forfar thanks to a David O'Brien hatrick (his first senior hatrick) and Stevie Bell's seventh goal of the season. Stirling started the game with a more familiar 4-4-2 formation with Ross Forsyth returning from injury and Stewart Devine dropping to midfield. Marek Tomana made a return to the midfield with Nathan Taggart and John Fraser dropping to the bench and strike duo Colin Cramb and Ian Cashmore both returned from injury. The Binos have now extended their lead over third placed Brechin to eight points after they went down 3-2 at home to Alloa and Stirling clawed the lead from Morton down to ten points after they drew away to Cowdenbeath. Stirling will have the chance to cut that lead down to seven points when Peterhead come to the city next week and Morton take on Motherwell in the Scottish cup. Match report below.

Young Reds- Soccer Sevens
25/01/07

The Young Reds will be holding a Parent's Evening on 14th February in the Castle Suite at Forthbank. Although it is being called a Parent's Evening, it is open to anyone who has an interest in developing youth football at Stirling Albion as the Young Reds intend to enter a 7 a side team in the Under 12 league run by the Forth Valley Football Development Association.
At the meeting Scott Kinross, Football Development Officer for Active Stirling, and Alan Morgan, Youth Football Manager for Sport Central, will give a presentation and Stuart Taylor, Head of Youth Development at Stirling Albion, will also be present as we see this as the start of developing future players for the club.
The meeting will also hear the plans to re-introduce the midweek Soccer Sevens. The Young Reds will need adults who are either coaches or would be willing to train to be coaches to help run this.
A newsletter is being sent out to present and past Young Reds but, if anyone would like further information, they can contact Ian Jones.

Youth Team Section
22/01/07

Stirlingalbion.com is now proud to be able to bring you up to date information regarding all the Youth Team's score's and match reports for every youth game this season. As you may or may not know, the club was unable to fund the youth system this season and a dedicated group of individuals where determined not to let the youth system end there. They set up a committee and through fund raising and help from local business's, the youth system was able to continue this season. However, the hard work only started there and the committee is now fund raising and on the look out of ways to help fund the three remaining youth teams (under 15,17 and 19's) on going expenses. The Youth Programme Finance Committee were meeting on Thursday night to discuss the recent SFA Grant Award made to the Youth Programme and also to begin arrangements for the next Fund Raiser in early March. Another Race Night is proposed and hopes are high that it can be as successful as the previous similar events. Details of how fans can help and be involved will  follow  soon. All three youth pages have been updated with scores and small match reports so if you are interested in looking at how the players of tomorrow are getting on, please click on the youth team on the menu on the left hand side of the screen under "Youth team info".

Morton 2v1 Stirling
20/01/07

Stirling's season fell apart after going down 2-1 to league leaders Morton after defensive error's cost the Binos the game. Stirling started the game in a 4-5-1 formation due to not having any signed fit strikers. The same team started as last week, except Taggart was brought into the team for last week's trialist Ian Harty and trialist Tommy Coyne started up front on his own. A late goal by Ian Cashmore wasn't enough to take a point away from Cappielow and the Binos fell twelve points behind in the race for the title. Stirling now have to pick themselves up and try and get back to winning ways to ensure a play off spot at the end of the season when Forfar come to Forthbank next week. Match report below.

Stirling 0v1 Raith Rovers
13/01/07
Stirling feel nine points behind league leaders Morton after going down 1-0 at home to mid table Raith Rovers. Stirling started the game with Sean Roycroft in the centre of defence instead of Andy Graham and Stewart Devine returned to the left back slot for the suspended Ross Forsyth; Marek Tomana dropped to the bench for John Fraser and two trialists (Tommy Coyne-former Kilmarnock player and Ian Harty- former Raith Rovers player) instead of the suspended Colin Cramb. The game went ahead in terrible conditions and the ball got frequently stuck in the mud all over the park. The referee also had a big part to play in the outcome of this game as he waved play on in the last minute of the first half after David O'Brien was clearly brought down in the box. The ref and the standside linesman were clearly not up to SFL standards as they got many decisions wrong (for both Stirling and Raith). This is not to take away from Raith who were clearly more up for the fight and their second half display merited them taking all three points. Any title aspirations that Stirling had before Christmas are quickly dispersing as they go 3 league games without a win and nothing but a win at Cappielow next week will do if they are to play catch up yet again to Morton. It is also evident that Stirling badly need a strike partner for Colin Cramb. Tommy Coyne was the better of the two trialists with some nice touches, but Ian Harty looks far from interested for playing for the jersey when the chips are down. Match report below.

Youth Team Update
08/01/07
After a short winter shutdown, some of the Binos youth teams were in action again and you can find all the information from their games and up and coming games by clicking on the youth section on the left hand side menu for each age group. On another note, all those involved with the Stirling Albion Youth Development Programme would like to congratulate Mrs Ina Shaw on her recent MBE Award. Ina has always shown a great interest in the young players and has provided great support to the young teams attending many of the youth team games. She has of course provided a happy home for some of our young players who were part of the YTS scheme and she always seems to know when to deliver a birthday cake at the right time for her 'Boys' . Congratulations, Ina -it is well deserved - enjoy your big day meeting Royalty!!

Stirling 1v6 Inverness Caley Thistle
06/01/07
Stirling limped out of the cup after suffering an embarrassing 6-1 defeat to a far superior side today. Stirling went into this game with the suspended duo of Myles Hogarth and Ross Forsyth back in the starting line up with Scott Christie and Stewart Devine moving to the bench. The Binos were forced into playing 4-5-1 formation as the we still haven't signed a striker to date and Colin Cramb being the only fit striker. Stirling's consolation goal came from David O'Brien in the first half, but in all honesty Stirling rarely threatened the ICT goal. The Binos sadly always seem to reserve their bad displays for games that the Binos have a decent home support at. The official crowd was just over 1500, but the home stand which holds 1250 was full and about 60-70 Binos had to see the game from the terracing. Stirling are now going through a bit of a tough time with no wins in three games and hopefully the players can get back to winning ways n next week at home to Raith Rovers and keep the Binos in with a chance of winning the second division. Match report below.

Alloa Athletic 1v1 Stirling
02/01/07

The Binos started this derby game with a make shift team after injuries and suspensions stretched the squad to braking point. Scott Christie started his first league game in goals and put in a man of the match performance in place of the suspended Myles Hogarth. Stewart Devine (still struggling from a thigh injury) started at left back instead of the suspended Ross Forsyth, with Graham, McNally and Hay making up the rest of the defence. In midfield John Fraser was dropped as Steven Bell returned to the midfield alongside Tomana, Aitken and Taggart. Up front, Ian Cashmore, who currently has a broken toe had to play through the pain barrier alongside Colin Cramb. Cashmore only lasted half of the first half and it looks like Stirling will only have Colin Cramb up front on Saturday if no one else is signed in time for the ICT cup game. Stirling eventually took the lead through a wonderful Chris Aitken strike and sent over 500 Binos wild, but an Andy Graham slip in the last minute let the Alloa striker in to score a last minute goal. With Morton winning away to Peterhead, the Binos now find themselves six points behind Morton and a win against Raith Rovers on the 13th January is a must now. The Binos must face Inverness Caley Thistle in the 3rd of the Scottish cup first on Saturday in front of a bigger than usual home crowd. Match report to follow.

Deno returns to Gretna
01/01/07

Dene Shields has now returned to Raydale Park after his six month loan deal expired with the Binos. Both Dene and Alan Moore were desperate to extend the deal till the end of the season, but SFL rules didn't permit him to stay. This is a massive blow for the Binos as Dene has been a fantastic player since signing for the Binos and he scored nine goals in 17+3 appearances to the help the Binos to ten wins in a row and second place in the league. Alan Moore now has a hard job of trying to replace Deno in time for the Alloa game tomorrow with both Paul Shields and Stephen Dobbie being rumored to be in the frame. If the Binos fail to register anyone today, then they'll go into the derby game tomorrow with only one recognised striker, Colin Cramb, as Ian Cashmore is currently out injured with a broken toe. Stirling will also go into this game without the suspended duo of Myles Hogarth and Ross Forsyth and Stewart Devine still struggling with a thigh injury. The Stirlingalbion.com team would like to thank Deno for giving his all and for some memorable displays in the last six months and we wish him all the best when he returns to Gretna.
