Apologies for the lack of
detail in this report. Thanks to the decision to house the
Albion fans in the temporary stand, I couldn't make out
the tannoy announcer, therefore, some of the Falkirk players
will only be referred to as their number.
Stirling Albion retained the
Stirlingshire Cup in a dramatic penalty shoot out with Falkirk.
The Binos twice came from 2 goals behind in normal time
to take the match to penalties. Young Sean Roycroft was
the goalscoring hero, scoring the winning penalty, whilst
Myles Hogarth played his part in saving Falkirk's 6th attempt.
Both teams played a mixture
of first team players and "fringe" players. the
Albion line up was:-
Hogarth
Neville
Roycroft
McNally
Devine
Wilson
Galloway
Hay
Allan
Cummings
Gethins
Falkirk took the lead in 7
minutes when Marshall danced past several defenders to slot
the ball past Hogarth.
In 15 minutes, Gethins headed just wide. after a good run
from Wilson.
In 22 minutes, a Neville cross flashed across the goals
but there were no takers.
In 25 minutes, McBreen rattled the crossbar with a header.
In 35 minutes, Allan forced his way in from the left but
Hill managed to smother his shot.
5 minutes before half time, Falkirk increased their lead
when Allan was adjudged to have brought down Rahim inside
the box. McAnespie sent Hogarth the wrong way.
Wilson should have pulled one back but he delayed his shot
allowing Hill to come out and block his effort.
Half time 2-0 to Falkirk.
The Binos made a change at half time with Hutchison replacing
McNally in the centre of defence.
The first 15 minutes of the second half were fairly uneventful.
Then, in 63 minutes, the Binos achieved the breakthrough
they needed when a Devine scissor kick beat Hill after the
keeper had saved Wilson's effort.
In 74 minutes, Falkirk restored their 2 goal advantage with
a close range shot from their number 10.
2 minutes later, Gethins was brought down in the box and
he stepped up to send a right foot shot past Hill. 2-3
Before the match re-started, McDonald came on for Wilson.
Allan was then replaced by Lochead.
With 5 minutes to go, Gethins scored the equaliser witha
shot which went in off the underside of the bar despite
Hill managing to get his fingertips to it.
With 3 minutes to go, Paul hay was unfortunate to see his
shot come back off the crossbar.
The match finished 3-3 and went staright to penalties which
were taken at the end of the ground housing the Albion fans.

the Albion.

A nervous looking Roycroft scored 9-8
Falkirk player, I didn't notice who it was such was the
excitement hit the bar.
Final score 9-8 and the cup was heading back to Forthbank.
The match had started with
Falkirk looking to overrun the Albion but an overall gritty
performance saw the Albion just about deserve to win. With
an unfamiliar team, I looked to see individual performances
and the man of the match, for me, was Gethins who, despite
his lack of physical presence, worked tirelessly throughout.
