Tom Fergusson was known to many as “Mr
Stirling Albion”, and he played a huge part in the
development of Stirling Albion Football Club. He served
various positions at the club, as a Director, Chairman,
Secretary and Manager. Fergusson became involved in football
in Stirling long before Stirling Albion, when he was manager
of Kings Park. When Kings Parks stadium got bombed during
World War Two it led to the debt ridden club folding.
After the war Mr Fergusson, along with several local businessmen
met to form a club. They choose to name the club Stirling
Albion, and is believed that “Albion” came from
the type of Lorries Fergusson used in his Coal Merchants
business. Under his guidance Stirling Albion climbed from
the C Division to the A Division in next to no time. After
Tom resigned as manager in 1960 he remained a director until
his death in 1967.
