Born on Christmas day 1964 in Glasgow, Allan commenced his career with Dumbarton who called him up from Possilpark YMCA in the summer of 1983. During his first season at Boghead the Sons of the Rock were promoted to the Premier League as runners up to champions Morton with the young Moore playing in four league games. The following season ,not perhaps surprisingly, Dumbarton were relegated after just one season in the top flight, with Allan once again limited to four league outings. Back in the First Division he at last became a regular in the side and scored four goals in 33 outings as the Sons finished mid table.
During his time with Dumbarton, Allan and his team mate Steve McCahill had trials with top French side Saint Etienne, but it was Hearts who secured his signature for a £85,000 fee in the summer of 86. During his time at Boghead Allan played in 41 league games scoring four times. Moore was to spend three seasons at Tynecastle, but found first team opportunities limited and only made 29 league appearances, most of which were from the subs bench, scoring three times.
A move to the new McDairmid Park in 1989 kicked off what was the best period of his career; as St Johnstone went onto clinch the First Division Championship during their first season at the new stadium. Moore was second top scorer with 13 league goals from 33 games. Allan spent five seasons with the Perth Saints and played in 124 league games, scoring 23 goals.
Bert Paton took him South to Dunfermline Athletic prior to the transfer deadline in March 94, the following season the Pars missed out on promotion to the Premier League by a point to their Fife rivals Raith Rovers. There was also further disappointment when Aberdeen beat them for a place in the top league via a play off. The following season 95/96 saw the Pars make up for the previous disappointment when they won the First Division Championship. Back in the top flight Allan spent a further two seasons at East End Park giving him a total of 96 appearances for the Pars during which he scored nine times, before closing season 97/98 with a short spell on loan to Livingston where he played in 7 league games scoring once as the Lions missed out on promotion from the Second Division.
The summer of 98 saw Moore move to First Division Airdrieonians where he scored 6 goals in 55 league games over the following two seasons. Next stop was Partick Thistle where he scored one goal in 19 league games as he helped the Maryhill side to the Second Division Championship. The following season started with Morton where he played in 15 Second Division games, scoring once, before switching to eventual Champions Queen of the South where he scored his only league goal from 12 appearances against his old club Greenock Morton.
Allan was appointed as player/head coach of Stirling Albion in June 2002 to replace Ray Stewart. In season 2002/03 he restricted himself to 2+6 league appearances for the Binos as they finished the season in mid table and he hung up his boots at the end of that season. Overall, Allan Moore has played in 404 league games for his ten clubs, scoring 49 times. Season 2003/04 saw the Albion dominate the division recording ten straight league wins at one point, but a slump at the end of the season meant that Stranraer took the championship, but the Binos still got promoted. Given the limited resources available to Moore, this was a fantastic achievement and he followed this up by finishing 4th in the second division. At the end of that season, Moore signed an extension to his deal to keep him with the Binos for another 2 years. Moore had another fantastic season in 2005/06 when the Binos only just missed out on one of the play off places, despite having a dreadful start to the season. Finishing fifth might not sound that great, but given the Binos limited budget and the fact that there was four full time teams in the division puts things more into perspective. Alan was linked with both the Airdrie and Dunfermline jobs in November 2006, but signed a two and half year extension to his exsisting contract keeping him at the Binos till the end of 2008/09 as he guided the Binos to promotion to the first division for the first time in a decade after a play off win over Airdrie. Alan found the going tough in the first division when the Binos (the only part time team in the division) came up against full time teams each week. Despite this, Alan tried to play attacking football, but the difference in class was too much and Stirling were relegated at the end of he season. Alan goes into his seventh season with the Binos as the second longest serving manager in Scotland.
