After a terrible start the season in which the Binos never won any of their first eleven games and lay adrift at the bottom of the second division, the Binos went on a fantastic run in which they almost qualified for one of the division's play off places. Stirling ended the season in fifth place and with the limited budget at manager, Alan Moore's disposal, this was a fantastic feat as there was four full time teams in the division. At the end of season 2005/06, the Binos freed five players. Amongst them was Christopher Hay, Robert Dunn, Chris Scotland, Steven Hutchison and David Turnbull who all played a part in the Binos success last season. The biggest loss for Stirling was the loss of last seasons top scorer, Paddy Connolly who scored seventeen goals for the Binos. Paddy was offered a one year full time contract with Morton, but he opted for a player coach position with second division rivals Brechin City.
Stirling have resigned all of the other players who haven't been released whilst Alan Moore still has one year left on his contract. Stirling made their first signing a week before their first pre-season game against St Mirren. Dene Shields was the man in question when he was signed on loan from first division Gretna until Christmas with an option of extending it. Shields started his career with Raith Rovers before Sunderland bought him for £60,000 after only a handful of games for the Kirkcaldy side. He never appeared for their first team and was loaned out to Conference side's Scarbrough and Doncaster Rovers in his time before being released. He then signed till the end of the season with Raith Rovers before signing for Brechin City. After a fall out with the manager he was then loaned out to Cowdenbeath where this move became permanent at the end of the season. He stayed there for a year and a half before Gretna snapped him up for £30,000. He was then loaned out for most of the season to first division Stranraer, although he did feature in Gretna's Scottish cup semi final win at Hampden over Dundee. Time will only tell if the striker can recapture his early career progress and help the Binos score some vital goals this season. Next up to sign was Colin Cramb who played in a couple of pre-season friendlies and scored against St Mirren. Cramb is somewhat of a journeyman with Stirling becoming his 15th senior club. The 32 year scored 16 goals last season with Stenhousemuir and I am sure he will be looking for the same return this season. Marek Tomana was also signed up in the same week as Cramb after coming on as a sub in the St Mirren pre-season game and playing a closed door game against Dundee at Stirling uni. Little much is known about the 26 year old midfielder, but he played in the Slovakian second division last season and looked very good on the ball against St Mirren. Next up to sign for the Binos was ex Partick and Stehousemuir winger Andy Gibson. Gibson had two previous loan spells with the Binos, one in the promotion winning season and the other the following season for two months in the second division. Ian Cashmore signed for the Binos in the week leading up to the opening league game against former club Ayr United. Cashmore started his career off in the juniors before signing for Ayr last season from Kilwinning Rangers. He featured over twenty times for them last season (mainly from the bench), but was unable to find the net in his time with them. Alan Moore added Steven Boyack in late August to the squad after he proved his fitness in training. Boyack was origionally released in the summer by the Binos, but was invited back to pre-season training. Moore completed the loan signing of Christopher Malseed from Irish first division side Finn Harps. The 19 year midfielder signed of Harps at the start of the Irish season and made 23 appearances, scoring 4 goals in the process.
