Sunday 19th August
Stirling 0v1 Queens Park
With three wins out of three for the club, the 16's kicked off against Queen's Park at 4.00pm in their SFA Youth fixture game on the excellent surface of the Airthrey Castle pitches at Stirling University. Co-ordinator Taylor and coach Blair Cremin as well as goalkeeping coach Dave Eccles were crossing their fingers for a four win Sunday but - as you all know only too well, football can be a cruel game and the 16's lost a last minute goal to lose out to the Spiders by 1-0. The team, with a number of new signings, performed very well and, especially in the third period, were very unlucky not to turn their dominance and excellent outfield play into goals. The 16's have a midweek friendly before returning to league action with an home game to Ayr United on Sunday 2nd September.
PRE-SEASON UPDATE
The Under 16's took advantage of a late season tournament organised by Ian Jenkins and Tom Ogilvie at Riverside BC to play triallist invited after the trials. A number of new players will be joining the team for the new season and coaches Blair Cremin and the highly experienced Billy Henderson are hopeful that these additions will strenghthen the team in the SFA 16's Initiative fixtures. Coordinator, Stewart Taylor explains,' We feel we have group of talented players who will develop well but thought that they would struggle to play in the dual age band competition at Under 17. As a result we have decided to enter a team at both Under 16 and Under 17 to give the boys the best possible chance to develop towards first team football. We have added five or six new players which means we have had to say goodbye to some boys from previous seasons. Stirling Albion thanks them and their parents for all their efforts and wishes them good luck for their footballing future.'
